Trying to find the right deck for Magic is an art few have mastered, you troll the internet, YouTube videos and Grand Prix streams to try and find that one deck that speaks to you. It took me a while and still, nothing caught my eye. Until one day my boyfriend suggested going down the list of the Modern meta. After scrolling straight through Aggro and Control, I got to Combo. This is where I found Amulet Titan. My decision was made. But, little did I know that I just picked one of the most complicated decks in the game… CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! That evening I was so eager to get testing the deck, I spend over an hour making up a proxy version to try it out.
I started with some of the decklists on MTG Top 8. This was so I could get the basics of the deck going.

So first off, let’s talk combo. The deck revolves around two cards. Primeval Titan and Amulet of Vigor (clues on the name Amulet Titan).
The general gist of the deck revolves around Primeval Titan’s Entering the battlefield and attack triggers, along with the trigger from Amulet of Vigor.
To start off, let’s look at the ideal opening hand.
This is where the deck can get complicated. With this opening hand, you are able to get Primeval titan down on turn 2.. crazy right? So let’s break it down:
Turn 1: Play Forest, followed by Amulet of Vigor.
Turn 2: Play your second Amulet of Vigor using the forest you played on turn 1. Next play your Simic Growth chamber. This will cause 3 triggers to hit the stack. Two Amulet triggers (one from each Amulet) and the Bounce trigger from the Simic Growth Chamber. Organised the stack as follows:
Untap trigger from Amulet no.1
Untap trigger from Amulet no.2
Bounce Trigger from Simic.
This sequence will allow you to untap the Simic Growth Chamber on entry. Before the trigger from Amulet no.2, Tap the land to make two mana (UG). Then allow the trigger from Amulet no.2 to resolve, untapping the land again. Now before the Bounce trigger, you can tap for mana again, adding a further two mana. Next, the bounce trigger resolves, use this trigger to bounce the Simic Growth Chamber back into your hand. At this point, you will have four mana in your mana pool (UUGG). use three of this mana, to cast Azuza, lost but Seeking from your hand. This gives you two more land drops for the turn, where you can repeat the steps above to generate another nine mana (UUUUGGGGG). Now it’s Primetime! using this mana you can cast Primeval Titan using six of the mana you have created. At this point, you will have three mana floating in your mana pool. Now which lands to fetch?
On Primeval Titans ETB trigger, the two ideal lands you want to fetch are Boros Garrison and Slayer’s Stronghold. The Triggers from Amulet of Vigor no.1 will allow you to untap both lands and activate them straight away onto the Titan. Amulet trigger no.2 will allow you to repeat this. Using the bounce trigger from Boros Garrison you can bounce literally anything you want here except itself, as we will need this on the battlefield later on. At this point, your Titan will be a 10/6. Next up move along to the combat step and attack with your now hasty Titan, causing him to trigger again. Now to fetch two more lands.
This time fetch Vesuva and Sunhome, Fortress on the Legion. On Vesuva’s entry, you will need to choose a land to copy. This is where we choose Boros Garrison. Next up comes more triggers. Both lands will receive an untap trigger from Amulet no.1, which you only need to tap the Vesuva for mana. making WR. Then comes the untap trigger from Amulet no.2 that will untap the Vesuva for a second usage. Now tap it again for mana and using that mana and the floating WR from the first trigger you are able to activate Sunhome onto the Titan. You will have a bounce trigger from Vesuva since it copied Boros Garrison so just go ahead and bounce itself after you’ve finished this step.
After all of this, your attacking Primeval Titan will be a 10/6 Trample, haste, vigilance, double Strike… and that should be GG. Not many decks can survive taking 20 damage to the face on turn two, especially in a format that uses fetch/shock lands.
That’s the general combo of the deck. However, it isn’t very often that you get the perfect starting hand. But this deck has a toolbox for toolboxes. It has a wide range of flexibility to fetch out your missing pieces. Let’s talk about replacements cards.
For ways to get an Amulet of Vigor we have Ancient Stirrings, this is a second chance to find an Amulet in the first 5 cards of your deck.
Next up are ways to make your additional land drops if you are missing Azusa. Sakura-Tribe Scout is also a good way to play lands at instant speed.
Summoner’s Pact and Tolaria West are ways to get a Primeval Titan out. You can use Tolaria West to fetch the Pact, which fetches Titan and so on. Tolaria West can also be used to fetch certain land you made need given certain situations but we can get onto those later.
Reclamation Sage can act as removal for pesky Artifacts and Enchantments (we’re looking at you Blood Moon..) and Walking Ballista can get rid of Creatures and Planeswalkers. Alternatively, this can also act as a second win condition if you have enough mana in the late game.
Next up is our utility lands. These allow us to play around a wide range of decks. Bojuka Bog is our graveyard hate. Ghost Quarter is our land hate, and Cavern of Souls allows us to play through control.
Two other utility lands are Radiant Fountain and Khalni Garden. The fountain allows us to gain life against decks like burn by repeatedly bouncing and re-playing. Whereas Khalni Garden gives us an additional body on the board against things like Liliana of the Veil. Given Primeval Titan’s ability and the Transmute from Tolaria west we only need to run one of each utility land as we can fetch them when needed.
As you can see, the deck relies on its lands (probably why it runs 28 of the buggers) to consistently stand up to most other decks in the format. Its adaptability against every archetype it comes up against makes it pretty good at what it does, and pretty fun to play at the same time. Overall this deck is complicated but will reward you with the time you put in, give this deck a chance and look past its complexity as it is such a fun deck to play.
